San Jose Shopping
In the southern part of San Jose, you will visit a huge variety of shops that offers wood, paintings, textiles and local artisans goods. You will find the best examples of Costa Rica’s souvenirs on this trip through the capital, allowing you to acquire a great souvenir from your stay in Costa Rica.
The trip ends at one of San Jose’s largest shopping centers, which boasts a large variety of stores and restaurants.

Braulio Carrillo National Park

Braulio Carrillo National Park is one of the biggest primary rainforest and cloud forest protected areas in the country; it is a 47.500 hectares located in the Central Mountain Range, around 25 miles away from the capital.
The park was declared in 1978 when the highway that connects San Jose with the Caribbean coast was under construction and some environmentalists were concerned about deforestation produced by the easy access through the highway. The park protects 6.000 species of plants (around 50% of the total in our country), 150 species of mammals and more than 500 species of birds. The views along the way are breathtaking; high mountains are densely covered with an evergreen mass of vegetation while down the canyon walls some cascades show up when the fog clears out. Paths are small but hikers will be able to spot some birds like the beautiful quetzal, toucans, trogons and eagles. Some of the common animals and reptiles found in the park are the jaguar, the ocelot, the bushmaster snake (Matabuey) and the feared fer-de-lance snake (Terciopelo). Arenal Volcano and Coter Rainforest

Gorgeous landscapes will unfold on our way to the Lake Coter Rain Forest while we drive around the Arenal Lake. Coter Rain Forest is a private biological reserve that protects 250 hectares of primary and secondary rain forest; it is ideal for trekking and bird watching. After lunch, we will continue to the Arenal Volcano area where you can take a dip into the natural mineral hot springs that descend from the volcano. You’ll find different pools filled with mineral water, surrounded by impressive well-manicured tropical gardens and a hot-water river that crosses the entire property. While you enjoy the hot springs, take a look of the impressive view of the Arenal Volcano, considered one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

Irazu Volcano National Park

The Irazú Volcano is an active volcano situated in the Central Mountain Range, close to the city of Cartago. Its name is believed to be a corruption of Iztarú, which was the name of an indigenous village on the flanks of the volcano; the name meant thunder mountain. This volcano is the highest one in Costa Rica (11,259 feet/3.432 meters), its last eruption was in 1965 and since then, it has been dormant, although frequent earthquakes show that still active underneath. On the way to the volcano, we will pass one of the most important agricultural regions where most of the potato, cabbage, carrots and dairy goods are produced. When we arrive to the Irazu, a brief walk along the crater will allow us to see four craters and if the weather permits, a spectacular view of the Pacific and Caribbean plains. Wildlife at Irazu is very scarce. Some of the mammals that have been seen are the Eastern Cottontail (rabbit), coyotes, armadillos, porcupine, weasels and tiger cats. As far as birds, some hummingbirds woodpeckers and mountain robins are a common sight.

Poas Volcano & La Paz Waterfall

Poas Volcano is considered the largest active crater in the world, about 1 mile (1.6 km.) wide and 320 meters deep, with frequent geyser-like eruptions. You will find trails that lead through cloud forest stunted and twisted, not only by volcanic emissions but the rigors of the cold windy high altitude habitat. Lake Botos fills an extinct crater at the end of one trail and is home to many cloud forest birds like hummingbirds, tanagers, flycatchers, toucanets, clay-colored robin and the resplendent quetzal. On the way to the Poas Volcano National Park, stunning scenery will unfold as you pass through coffee, sugar, fern and strawberry plantations, a very country sightseeing ride to the volcano that will show you the vegetation changes as you keep ascending until you reach the cloud forest. Continuing with the tour, next stop is at La Paz Waterfalls Gardens, a rain forest park that provides its visitors a great variety of activities. The main attraction is the panoramic viewpoints of five magnificent waterfalls that feed La Paz River. Another attraction is the hummingbird’s garden, where you will see many of these masters of the art of flying, feeding and flying in all directions. This place has one of the world’s largest butterfly gardens, an orchid collection, snake and frog exhibits, a traditional country house, Trout Lake and a bird observatory.

Manuel Antonio National Park
Tour operated from Jaco: Manuel Antonio, a magical place where the sea meets the mountains, is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful national parks. In this paradise, we will find white sand beaches and clear blue waters. We will follow nature trails through the middle of the forest that will take us to places where we can admire the beauty of the park in all its splendor. In our trek through Manuel Antonio National Park, we will enter the tropical rainforest where we will find a wide variety of flora and fauna. The wildlife is extraordinarily abundant, with 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds. Among the most important of these are raccoons, agoutis (large rodents that resemble guinea pigs), two and three-fingered sloths, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, and the endangered red-backed squirrel monkeys. Many species of birds can also be seen in this area including toucans, pelicans, and laughing falcons. We are also sure to see lizards, snakes and countless species of insects.
Manuel Antonio National Park protects areas of primary forest, secondary forest, mangroves, beach vegetation, as well as marine environments. The mangroves cover approximately 18 hectares and are made up of three species: red mangrove, buttonwood, and mariquita. Among the vegetation on the beach, you will find manzanillo trees, which have a milky sap and poisonous fruit, almond trees, rosy trumpet trees, and coconut trees. After the walk through the forest and on the beach, we will enjoy a delicious lunch.
Butterfly Farm

Costa Rica houses a wide variety of butterfly species because of its tropical weather conditions. The Butterfly Farm located in Alajuela, was established in 1983 as the first commercial butterfly farm in Latin America as a backyard experience and soon it became the principal supplier of neo-tropical species to Entomological Livestock Supplies (ELS) in England, by that time it was the world's only, and later leading, distributor of living lepidoptera.
The tour includes a documentary film, a visit to the larva and pupae laboratories and the gardens where thousands of butterflies fly all over the place, this is the perfect place to learn about these fascinating insects, their metamorphosis and life cycle. Early morning tours may have the extra treat of watching butterflies emerging from their chrysalides and taking off for their maiden flight. On export day, visitors may watch thousands of pupae being packed for exportation.

Canopy Tour

This canopy is a 1400-acres property of primary and secondary cloud and rain forests located on the skirts of the Barva Volcano in the Central Mountain Range, about 45 minutes from San Jose City. The project was created as a family eco-tourism program to protect the forest and sell oxygen. The canopy is a network of 13 platforms and 9 cables built on top of giant oak trees with over 200 and 400 years. Zip lines are made of galvanized stainless cables that go from 60 to 600 feet long and most of them fly along the treetops or over waterfalls. During the tour you also take short walks on elevated trails that communicate platforms and you will also be pasing through the hollow trunk of an old stragulating ficus tree. Canopy tours are also available in different parts of the country.

White Water Rafting

This trip is paced with adventure and fun, leading you across crystalline waters that jump and turn unexpectedly. The class-III is ideal for rafting rookies. More experienced rafters will love the class-IV at the Pacuare River.
